1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU
